Kobido in Madrid: Japanese Facial Massage

“The hands-on art of awakening the face, releasing the jaw and quieting the mind”

Kobido in Madrid means a Japanese facial massage technique that works the face, neck and scalp using only the hands. At our center on Calle Justiniano, in the Justicia neighborhood, we perform it as part of the Ritual Kobido & Crown: fast, precise movements on the facial muscles, neck release and a deep head massage to finish, in a private treatment room.

Imperial lineage, 15th century

The ancient way of beauty

Kobido literally means “ancient way of beauty.” It began in 15th-century Japan as a facial massage reserved for the imperial court, and today it is still practiced just as it was then, using only the hands.

What sets Kobido apart from a regular facial is its rhythm

“Very fast movements alternating with slow, deep pressure”

The therapist alternates very quick, almost tapping movements of the fingers with slow, deep pressure on the spots where your face holds the day’s tension: the jaw, the temples, the space between the brows and the base of the skull.

That contrast does two things at once. It boosts surface circulation, which is what leaves your face feeling awake when you get up from the table, and it restores movement to muscles that spend hours clenched without you noticing. If you grind your teeth at night, work long hours in front of a screen or feel your face looks tired even when you’ve rested, that is exactly where Kobido works.

Tight jaw

Relieves the strain for people who clench their teeth or build up tension when chewing.

Refreshed look

Manual stimulation and boosted circulation, visible as soon as you finish.

Silence

A private treatment room and a quiet session, designed to help you switch off.

How the session unfolds

The experience, step by step

No rush and no background chatter. Each stage has its purpose within the ritual.

Phase 01

Initial chat

You tell us about your skin, where you feel tension and anything we should keep in mind, such as a recent aesthetic treatment. The therapist adjusts the pressure.

Phase 02

Preparatory cleanse

Light makeup and impurities are removed so we can work on clear, receptive skin.

Phase 03 · core

Kobido movements on the face

The heart of the ritual. Fast movements, friction and pressure on the cheekbones, jaw, temples and between the brows.

Phase 04

Neck release

The session moves down to the neck and shoulders, where much of the tension that builds up above usually comes from.

Phase 05 · Crown

Head massage finish

Sustained pressure on the scalp and the base of the skull. It’s the part almost nobody expects and almost everyone asks to repeat.

Phase 06

Recovery

The final minutes are about coming back to calm, with no rush to get up from the table.

The tension chain

Why Kobido in Madrid ends at the head, not the face

“The jaw, the neck and the scalp form a single circuit”

Book the full ritual

The most surprising part of the ritual is the ending. Once the face has been worked, the session moves down to the neck and up to the skull, and that’s often where the explanation for a lot of tense faces lies.

The muscles of the jaw, neck and scalp form a chain. If you spend the day with your shoulders raised and your jaw clenched, working only on the face leaves the job half done.

That’s why the ritual is called Kobido & Crown. The head massage closes the chain, and it’s also why many people leave feeling as if they’ve slept rather than had a facial. If tension brings you here more than your skin does, this is the part you’ll be grateful for.

Kobido, facial ritual or full experience

If you prefer a facial focused on radiance, with glow exfoliation and lifting massage, the 60-minute Queen Face Ritual covers that. If you want face and body in the same visit, the 120-minute Queen Ultimate Ritual combines exfoliation, a body treatment, relaxing massage, a facial ritual and head massage.

What you’ll notice and how often to repeat it

Kobido is a massage, not a medical treatment, and it doesn’t replace one. The effect of a single session is real but temporary and varies from person to person. If you want to maintain it, the usual rhythm is one session every two or three weeks for the first few months, then once a month.

Common questions

Kobido FAQ

How long is a Kobido session?

Sixty or ninety minutes, depending on the format you choose. Both include the initial chat, the facial work, the neck release and the head massage finish. The 90-minute session leaves more time for the neck and shoulders.

How much does Kobido massage cost in Madrid?

At our center, €69 for the 60-minute session and €75 for the 90-minute one. Paying online gives you a 5% discount: €65.55 and €71.25. The price includes the full ritual, with no extras.

Is Kobido the same as a facelift?

No. It’s called a Japanese facelift because of the type of movements, but it’s a manual massage: no surgery, no injections and no devices. It’s not a medical treatment either, nor does it replace one.

How often should I repeat it?

You’ll notice a single session, though the effect is temporary. If you want to maintain it, the usual rhythm is one every two or three weeks at first, then once a month.

Can I have it if I’ve had hyaluronic acid fillers or Botox?

You need to respect the waiting period given by the professional who performed the treatment. Let us know when you book and we’ll adjust the appointment or the intensity of the movements.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, we work by appointment only. You can book using the calendar on this page.
