Massage gift card in Madrid: how to get it right
Buying a massage gift card in Madrid looks like an easy decision until you sit down to do it. Then the real questions turn up: whether it will seem like too small a gesture, whether the person will ever find the time to use it, whether you should pick the treatment yourself or let them choose, and how much you need to spend for it not to feel odd.
We have been handing out gift cards from the Justicia neighbourhood for years and we have seen both versions of this story: the one that ends in a session somebody still talks about, and the one that ends as a piece of paper going out of date in a drawer. This guide is about avoiding the second. It is not a catalogue. For that there is the gift card page, where you can see the formats and order directly. What follows is the part nobody explains: how to choose well.
- The better you know the person, the more specific the gift card should be.
- Sixty minutes beats ninety for someone who has never been to a spa.
- Our gift cards are valid for six months, so the handover date matters.
- Digital arrives in minutes, printed gives you the moment of opening it.
- Suggest a date when you hand it over. That is what turns paper into a booking.
Why it works as a present, and when it does not
A massage has an advantage almost no object has: it takes up no space, it cannot be duplicated and you do not have to guess a size. It also has a drawback almost nobody thinks through: it asks the other person to book an appointment, travel somewhere and undress in front of someone they have never met. For certain people that is not a gift, it is a chore.
It works very well when the person already looks after themselves, when they sit at a desk all day and complain about their back, when they have just come through a rough stretch, or when you know they enjoy it but would never pay for it themselves. That last case is the most common of all: people who would love an hour on the table and who will never book one because it feels like an indulgence. The gift does double work there, because along with the session you remove the guilt.
It works less well when the person is genuinely private about their body and has never asked for anything like this, when they are in a stretch with no free afternoons, or when the gift comes from someone the relationship does not quite stretch to. If you recognise any of those, a facial ritual or a head and scalp treatment, where the work happens sitting up or only on face, neck and scalp, is a far gentler way in than a full body massage.
A set experience or an open amount
This is the first real decision and almost nobody stops to make it. Both options are valid and they say different things.
This is the one that says “I thought about you”. You choose the ritual, the length and the focus, and all the other person has to do is call and turn up.
It works better when you know the person well and when you want the gift to have a recognisable shape. It also wraps better, because the paper carries a name and a description rather than a figure.
This is the one that says “you choose”. Less charm on opening, more freedom afterwards.
It is the sensible option when you do not know whether they prefer firm or gentle pressure, when you have no idea how they feel about facial treatments, or when several people are chipping in. It is also the only format that lets them add the difference and move up to something longer.
If you are torn, one rule holds up almost every time: the better you know the person, the more specific you go; the less you know them, the more open. And if the gift is for a couple, go specific, because open gift cards for two turn into diary negotiations that push the booking back by weeks.
What a massage gift costs in Madrid
It depends on the ritual and the length, not on a single price. These are the real bands from our menu, so you can see what fits each budget. It is worth checking them against the full list of experiences before you decide, because the duration changes what each one costs.
For one person
Express rituals of twenty to thirty minutes start at 30 €. They are built for neck and shoulders or for tired legs, and they are the small gift that actually gets used, because it fits inside a lunch break and does not ask anyone to set aside a whole afternoon. As an office birthday present or a thank you they work better than you would expect. They are all on the express massage page.
The next step up is a full ritual. The Power Reset, which is our way in and the most booked treatment we have, is 69 € for the hour and 89 € for ninety minutes. If you want something with more to it, Kobido style facial rituals sit at 79 and 99 €, and the detox focused ones go to 69 and 89 €.
Above that are the long experiences, which already include the circuit and several stages: the private suite for one at 139 € and the Longevity ritual at 169 €. At that point the gift stops being a massage and becomes an afternoon.
For two
The couples format starts at 169 € with the Lovers ritual, which is two therapists on two beds inside the same room. It is by some distance the most requested gift for anniversaries and weddings. Above it sit the Royal Suite at 189 €, Rain Harmony at 199 € and Anniversary at 225 €, which add a private circuit and more time. If you are giving a gift for two, it is worth reading first how a session for two actually works, because it is nothing like two individual massages one after the other.
For a group
Celebrations for three people start at 199 € and run in a private room. The gift here is usually collective: a hen or stag do, a milestone birthday, a thank you from a company. It has one practical advantage that is not minor, which is that booking as a block closes the date on the spot and the problem of the unredeemed gift card disappears entirely. The formats are on the group experiences page.
How much redemption time to leave
Our gift cards are valid for six months, and that figure is not arbitrary. It is where two curves cross. With less time, plenty of people never find the gap and the present turns into a small source of stress. With much more, the gift card leaves the recipient’s mind completely and resurfaces when it is no longer any use.
What you can control is when you hand it over. A gift card given in December that has to be used before June is perfectly reasonable. A gift card given in December on the assumption it will be used in January, when that person has January full, drifts to March without anyone doing anything wrong.
One trick works better than anything else: give the gift card and propose the date in the same breath. Even a rough one. “I got you this, shall we look at a Saturday in February?” turns paper into an appointment, which is where the gift starts to exist.
Digital or printed
Both formats are worth the same and work the same way. The difference is purely staging.
- Digital. It arrives by email the moment you buy it, so it is the one that rescues last minute gifts. If you are reading this on the morning of the birthday, this is your option. It is also the easier one when the person lives elsewhere or when several people are chipping in and it has to be forwarded.
- Printed. The same digital card, printed at home and handed over in person, with the moment of opening it, which is exactly what an email attachment does not have. If the gift is going to be given in front of people, at a dinner or a celebration, paper wins without argument.
How to order one
The process is deliberately short, because most of these gifts are decided in a hurry. You choose the ritual on the gift card page, pay by card and the gift card reaches your inbox straight away with its code. If you want it on paper, print it at home: it works exactly the same.
If you would rather see everything before writing, the gift card page has the current formats and prices, and you can order straight from there. You can also reach us through the contact page. A person answers, not a form.
Five mistakes we see again and again
- Giving the longest option by default. Ninety minutes sounds like a better present than sixty, but for someone who has never been to a spa, an hour and a half face down can feel endless. For a first time, sixty minutes is almost always the better call.
- Choosing firm pressure without asking. “Deep tissue” sounds like the serious massage and “relaxing” sounds like the soft one, so plenty of people give the first thinking it is the proper version. It is not. They are different approaches to different problems. If you do not know which they prefer, an open gift card or a ritual where the pressure can be adjusted on the table solves it. We go into the difference on the relaxing and deep tissue page.
- Not telling them it exists. It sounds silly, but it happens: the gift card goes out by email, lands in a promotions folder and nobody sees it until it has expired. If you send it digitally, mention it through another channel too.
- Giving a couples ritual without warning the other person. A treatment for two means somebody else also has to set aside an afternoon. If that second person is not in on it, the gift card sits waiting for two diaries to line up instead of one.
- Leaving it to the last week. Weekends and busy dates fill up first. A gift card someone tries to redeem in its final week usually ends up being used on a Tuesday evening, which is lovely, but it was not the plan.
If you are visiting Madrid
A fair share of these gift cards are bought from abroad, usually for someone who lives here or for a trip that has already been booked. Two things are worth knowing. The first is that the gift card and the appointment are separate steps, so buying early does not hold a slot; if the session has to happen on a specific day of a trip, tell us the dates when you order and we will look at the diary then rather than later.
The second is timing. Around one in four of the bookings we take is for the same day, so last minute does sometimes work, but evening and weekend slots are the first to go. If the gift is tied to a weekend in Madrid, a few days of notice makes the difference between the hour you wanted and the hour that was left.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy a massage gift for the same day?
Yes. The digital gift card is issued straight away, so it works as a last minute present. The appointment is a separate matter: around one in four of our bookings is for the same day, so there is often a slot, but we never take it for granted. If the surprise includes the session itself, message us first and we will check the diary.
What if they do not like the ritual I chose?
It can be swapped for another of the same value, or used as part payment towards something more expensive by adding the difference. Nobody ends up with a treatment they did not want.
Can I give this to someone who has never been to a spa?
It is one of the cases where it makes most sense. For a first time we suggest a sixty minute ritual, and letting them know three things: they do not have to make conversation, the pressure can be adjusted during the session, and they can stop at any point. Most of the awkwardness of a first visit comes from not knowing those three things.
How much should I spend for it to feel right?
It depends more on the context than on the figure. A 30 € express as a gesture between colleagues is perfect, and a 59 € ritual as a birthday present is too. The amount only starts to matter when several people are chipping in or when the gift marks a particular date, and the natural step up there is one of the formats for two.
Does the gift card include the booking?
No. The gift card is the right to the session, and the appointment is arranged afterwards, online from the page of the ritual itself, entering the code at the payment step. We say it plainly because it is the most common misunderstanding: holding the gift card does not mean holding a time slot.
In short
A massage gift card in Madrid works when you get three things right: the format, the moment and the margin. The format, by choosing between a set experience and an open amount depending on how well you know the person. The moment, by handing it over when that person can realistically think about using it. And the margin, by proposing a date as you give it rather than leaving it floating.
